Teens Speak Out

At the Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative (BBYDI), we don’t just focus on
digital skills, we pay attention to youth development. Since 2014, we’ve been running
“Teens Speak Out” (TSO) in Osun State, a program designed to empower teenagers
with communication, advocacy, and public speaking skills.

A Platform Built By and For Teens

TSO is our annual academic competition for secondary school students, focused on
the theme of youth participation in national development. We prioritise instilling moral
values in teenagers and fostering a spirit of healthy competition. Every year, we
acknowledge the most punctual school, highlighting the importance of timeliness and
responsibility.

The impact of TSO is clear in the stories of our past winners. Ridwanullah
Solahudeen, a 2017 Essay writing participant, emphasises the value of learning and
perseverance, even if you don’t win initially. Adejumo Farooq Akorede, winner of the
Second Best Orator award in 2019, highlights our program’s ability to cultivate not
just winning, but a love of learning and critical thinking.

Impacting Confidence

Mujeebah Opatola, the TSO 9.0 coordinator and winner of the 2019 Oratory
category, exemplifies the program’s transformative power. Participating in TSO
boosted her confidence, honed her talents, and gave her a platform to contribute to
national issues. Her story, along with others, echoes the sentiment that TSO
provides a space for young voices to be heard and empowered.

Our Teens Speak Out program goes beyond competition.

It’s a platform for
teenagers to develop valuable life skills, gain confidence, and actively participate in
shaping a better future for themselves and their nation. By nurturing communication,
critical thinking, and advocacy skills, we empower teenagers to become the future
leaders and changemakers Nigeria needs. .
