TROOP OUT TO VOTE; SHUN VIOLENCE AND THE SPREAD OF FAKE NEWS IN THE SUPPLEMENTARY ELECTION – BBYDI

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is set to conduct supplementary elections on Saturday, 15th of April 14, 2023. The election is holding after the commission had declared several polls inconclusive and cancelled several others due to irregularities and violence in the general elections held on February 25 and March 18, respectively.

The supplementary election will hold across different states and at different levels. In Adamawa and Kebbi States, there will be a governorship rerun. In addition, there will be an election in five senatorial districts across Kebbi, Zamfara, and Sokoto States. Elections will also be in 31 Federal House of Reps constituencies and 57 State Assembly constituencies.

Brain Builder Youth Development Initiative (BBYDI) urges Nigerians in places where the supplementary elections will hold to troop out in their numbers to participate in the process, especially in the legislative elections. In light of the irregularities witnessed in the general elections, the type of lawmakers Nigerians vote for will shape the laws that will guide our electoral process.

We advise Nigerians to avoid spreading fake news during the process and shun all forms of violence. However, in areas where violence is experienced or unverified information is disseminated, citizens can report such cases on our platforms factcheckelections.org and evit.ng.

We implore all security personnel deployed to ensure the safety of the elections to commit themselves to the process by protecting lives and properties. We also admonish them to remain fair to all to ensure a credible and free election.
