BBYDI, RCF COMMENDS THE JUDICIARY AS JUSTICE PREVAILS OVER RAPE, MURDER OF UNILORIN UNDERGRADUATE
Brain Builder Youth Development Initiative and Rising Child Foundation has commended the Nigerian Police Force, Kwara State Command, and the Kwara State High Court for holistic investigation to unravel what led to the death of UNILORIN undergraduate, Olajide Blessing Omowumi which saw an eventual end to a year and a half legal tussle and brought culprits to justice.
In the Judgement handed down by Justice Ibrahim Yusuf, three primary suspects out of the eight accused persons alleged to have raped and murdered Blessing were convicted and sentenced to death by hanging while two secondary suspects were sentenced to three years imprisonment for theft. However, other three suspects were discharged and acquited.
We hope that this commendable response from the Kwara State Judiciary and the Nigerian Police Force would serve as major deterrent to sexual-related crimes and send strong warnings to future perpetrators.
