Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative, one of the leading non-governmental organizations in Kwara state, in conjunction with Yvote Naija, a political advocacy platform, has on Saturday 28th of May, 2022, organized a sensitization program for Kwara communities on the importance of political participation, voting for the right candidates and ensuring free and fair election, while giving them orientation on the danger of political apathy and vote-buying. The advocacy which was held in Ilorin on Saturday also includes online registration, transferring checking on the validity of existing voters’ cards.

In his statement, Olasupo Abideen, the Executive Director of BBYDI, noted that the advocacy was necessary at a time political apathy is prevailing, while a large number of electorates have not registered when the deadline is very near.

“We noticed that the deadline for the closure of registration is barely one month and larger percent of the people are still yet to register,” he said.

Speaking further, Olasupo also said that the advocacy was held as a result of complaints received by the organization and to promote adequate political participation.

“We discover that a lot of people have completed their online registration but yet to complete the physical ones. We receive calls at our center everyday asking where people can obtain their PVC, fresh registration and others.”

While the association conducted free online registration for the citizens, it also promised to sponsor communities who are ready to do their registration and obtain their PVCs locally.
