The depth of the love of parents for their children cannot be measured. It is like no other relationship. It exceeds concern for life itself. The love of a parent for a child is continuous and transcends heartbreak and disappointment.” – James E. Faust
For ages, parents have played a crucial role in shaping the society through the family structure. Without doubt, they’ve demonstrated the purest forms of love in taking care of their children and families.
This has not gone unnoticed. In 2012, the United Nations General Assembly recognized these efforts and set the 1st of June of every year apart to appreciate all parents for their “selfless commitment to children and their lifelong sacrifice towards nurturing this relationship.”
As we face an increase in social vices such as rape, which poses a lot of threats to the girl child, parents are needed more than ever. Creating a safe society for girls and women means that parents must raise their children with the consciousness of the dangers of these vices.
We are at a critical time. Women and girls have been subjected to sexual abuse by males and we believe that, to a large extent, parenting has a role in all of this.
Parents must train their boys to respect girls, control their sexual desires and not see women as objects to fulfil their sexual desires.
The girl child is not safe out there. They’re in constant fear of being attacked by the male gender.
As we celebrate parents today, we also remind them of the importance of their roles.
From all of us at Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative, we say Happy Global Day of Parents.
