Our Focus Areas
Good Governance, Transparency, and Accountability
We promote open-data governance at all levels to ensure citizens are well-informed and actively engaged in government processes and decision-making. We use the principles of Freedom of Information to empower citizens to demand transparency and accountability from public officials. We advocate for favourable socio-economic policies, monitor public projects and budgets, and foster socio-political engagements to drive positive change within this focus area.
Advocating for an improved education system
We use policy briefs, awareness campaigns, and social interventions to address the issue of out-of-school children in Nigerian. Through research and data analysis, we advocate for girl-child education in underprivileged areas, aiming to reduce child marriages and ensure the effective implementation of education policies that meet international standards and align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We visit schools to deliver digital training workshops, provide career mentorship, and facilitate personal development assemblies. Our education interventions extend to climate education in secondary schools, equipping students with the knowledge and skills to address climate change and contribute to building a sustainable environment.
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
We recognise the significance of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a
global framework for improving lives and building a sustainable world. We advocate
for the implementation of the SDGs and work towards their localisation in Nigeria.
Our “Localising the SDGs” program targets rural communities through grassroots
interactions and empowerment. We aim to engage change-driven residents across
Nigeria’s 774 local government areas.
To ensure effective monitoring, BBYDI tracks and evaluates the progress of SDGs
implementation through data analysis and project tracking. Our SDGs coordinators
in the 36 states spearhead needs-based awareness campaigns to promote SDGs
understanding and engagement.
Elections, Human Rights, and Civic Duties
We facilitate public awareness campaigns on Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) and emphasise the importance of exercising civic duties. We collaborate with other non-governmental organisations to educate new voters on the registration process and encourage electoral participation. We provide election observation and fact-checking training through our Factcheck Elections project to enhance the credibility of elections. Our primary focus is encouraging greater electoral participation, especially among Nigerian youths, and enhancing citizens’ involvement in governance.Youth Development, Investment, and Economic Empowerment
We foster entrepreneurial development among young people through innovative projects that cultivate an entrepreneurial mindset and equip participants with the necessary tools and resources to thrive. We provide hands-on training, workshops, conferences, and boot camps, connecting participants with mentors for ongoing guidance. Over 100,000 youths have benefited from our digital skills training in technology, science, and infrastructure.Research and Policy
We analyse social development trajectories, policy implementation, governance performance, political participation trends, and gender sensitivity. We utilise data to identify areas of concern and engage relevant stakeholders on issue-based reforms. To provide actionable solutions across governance, community development, SDGs, women’s inclusion, and gender-based violence, we publish policy briefs that examine these issues and their societal impacts and offer policy recommendations.FactCheckAfrica is an independent fact-checking platform. Our focus is to produce fact-check reports around electoral activities, issues in government, accountability in governance, climate and conflicts in Africa. FactCheckAfrica is legally registered as an entity under the umbrella of the Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative (BBYDI), a non-government and non-profit organization.
